Pantry Pests
How To Identify
General Pantry Pests:
Pantry pests include a variety of insects that infest stored food products, such as flour beetles, weevils, and Indian meal moths. Flour beetles are small, reddish-brown insects found in grains and flour. Weevils are small, dark beetles with elongated snouts, commonly found in rice, wheat, and other grains. Indian meal moths are small moths with a wingspan of about 1/2 inch, with reddish-brown and tan coloration. These pests can also be found in unexpected places like dog food, where they can contaminate and damage stored kibble. Signs of infestation include small insects in or around food packages, webbing in food containers, and damaged or contaminated food. It's essential to regularly check all food storage areas, including pet food, for signs of these pests to prevent widespread infestation.
